ICS Diagnostics Second First for 2018

Wednesday, October 24, 2018

With ICS Diagnostics’ (ICSD) first clinical contract commencing in the second quarter of 2018 and more contracts being won; Head of ICS Diagnostics’ Sam Tennant alongside James Ashman, Head of Physiology Services and Eduardo Lima, National Echocardiography Lead attended the British Society of Echocardiography’s (BSE) Annual Conference.

Founded in 1990, the BSE conference, was held on Friday 5 October and Saturday 6 October 2018 in Liverpool. The event is a great opportunity for academics and clinical experts in Echocardiology to present papers, share opinions and best practices. More importantly, it’s a great chance to network and see the latest the echocardiography industry has to offer via its large trade exhibition.

The presence of giants in the city of Liverpool at the exact same time could have been reasonably seen as a metaphor for the luminaries present and celebrated at the BSE awards ceremony on the Friday evening, with introduction of a new category, Fellow of the BSE, introduced by Keith Pearce. A lifetime achievement award to Dr Helen Rimington proved deservedly popular with all attending.

There was also a piece of research presented by Dr Grant Heatlie which in our opinion was an understated giant and deserved the audience of all practicing echocardiographers. To summarise, it reduced the need to withdraw Herceptin Therapy down to 4% (96% completing the course of Herceptin) by earlier detection of cardiotoxic effects of Herceptin using AFI (speckle tracking). Used to derive Average Global Longitudinal Peak Systolic Strain meant earlier and effective HF treatment commenced before the later conventional clinical markers of deteriorating Biplane LVEF. With the presence of cardiotoxicity in up to 30% using conventional clinical markers early detection with speckle tracking and treatment gives improved patient outcome.

We had a great time learning, discussing and of course networking at the 2018 BSE Conference and would like to thank the British Society of Echocardiography for having ICS Diagnostics as an exhibitor.

We hope to see you at next year’s BSE Conference at ICC Birmingham, click here.
